WINTER SUN and SUMMER EVENING series

It was a busy period painting in the studio developing both a WINTER SUN & SUMMER EVENING series - inspired by walks in the grounds around my studio and evening walks through the valley. There are X10 of each, which are all now fully framed

This double series of paintings have all been varnished as part of the painting process - sitting in the studio for a while drying with further layers of paint and varnish being applied over many months. I used charcoal and graphite within the oil as they where being painted, with an instinctive and spontaneous process of mark-making that meant that most paintings themselves where done in one sitiing. But the dry, flat effect of the mixed media needed to be sealed and lifted - which took the time

Some of these paintings are almost abstract, with their rough marks and scratches... drawing into them and using the back of the brush and sometimes my fingers. But I like that they became very real as you step away, because they represent real physical places and a particular time of day and season 

The WINTER SUN paintings are complete with beautiful handmade, and hand-painted black 'St Ives style' frames. While the SUMMER EVENING series have the same frames but with a beautiful hand-painted ivory finish. All leading the eye into the work. Signed by me on the front - and all labelled on the reverse they are ready to hang
