ST. BEES series
I have been working on a series of paintings from St. Bees - not too far from me - just further on the West Cumbrian coast. It's the start or finish of the 'Coast to Coast' walk popularised by Wainwright. It was a misty morning that cleared as the day progressed. Often a feature of my work as I engage with the physical process of mark-making, is impasto paint layered wet on wet to create expression, depth and connection with the landscape I am immersed in
I have started this series with some small paintings - to work out composition and scale and to help me to see and understand which ones can be taken further into larger works. They are beautifully double framed in hand-painted white scooped frame and soft grey slip. Signed by me on the front - and all labelled on the reverse these are ready to hang
