NEWBARNS series
Since living in the Lakes and for most of that time in and around the area of the Kent Estuary - my work has been heavily influenced by the landscape of the sands and tides of Morecambe Bay. The ever changing light and flow is a constant source of inspiration that I turn to again and again - despite travels in other parts of the world
With this series I have been walking and exploring between Arnside and Silverdale and drawn to the estuary area of Newbarns just before the water of the Kent runs out into the expanse of the Bay. The small area here varies from shallow rocky and shaded outcrops to steep rockfaces and then vast open sands. Irrespective of the weather it is a beautiful space. This series is from a weekend of blue skies creating what was in some scenes an almost mediterranean feel as the light bounced off the water and acrosss the sands. As with other work these paintings have been built up in layers with a bold impasto style which reflects my desire to connect with the painting and the environment. This series also introduces a NEW size of canvas that I will be continuing on subsquent series that will be referred to as Small/ Medium
These paintings are all complete with beautiful handmade, scooped and hand-painted blue-grey frames and hand-painted white 'St Ives style' frames. The medium size paintings are in handmade, deep, scooped and hand-painted white wooden frames - all leading the eye into the work. Signed by me on the front - and all labelled on the reverse these are ready to hang
